Abstract: | It is hypothesized that a major cause of movie attendance is social isolation, which is measured by population increase, percentage of the population changing houses, and an urbanism index. Fairly high product-moment correlations are found between each of the two population mobility measures and movie attendance; the combined multiple correlation is even higher. Adding the urbanism index to this multiple correlation increases it only slightly. Significant regional differences in movie attendance are found to disappear when population increase is controlled. |
