| Abstract: | Throughout Chinese literary history, there have been many collective names for two or more ancient Chinese writers. In this paper, this phenomenon is examined against the extensive background of the Chinese culture and also of the world culture as a whole, and its origins, functions and special features are presented, thereby providing a new angle for the approach to Chinese literary history. |
