Abstract:The new genre public art evolves from the original propaganda demands towards more interactions with the public and the role of the artistic work shifts from “the narrator” to “the carrier”. This shift shows that the tendency of the discourse power of the art shifts from the artist to the public. West Lake International Invitational Sculpture Exhibition is a typical exhibition of New Genre Public art in the China. It embodies a new stage of the public art development and shows the agreement between art and the regional culture of South China. With the progress of the exhibition, the relationship between the public and the works of art is closer. It not only activates the regional cultural memory but shows the direction of public art development
