章回体小说的现代际遇

章回体小说代表了中国古典小说的重要艺术成就.进入现代社会以后,其在文学史上的地位虽然被新文艺小说所取代,但仍在被继续创作着,并且引起了现代文学界的关注.因此,有必要阐明章回体小说在现代生活中的际遇情形.清末民初,人们对于章回文体的认识有了自觉,不仅注意到其艺术特色,也对古典章回体小说进行了价值评判.到了20世纪二三十年代,文学家们改变了对古典章回体小说的态度,认识到了其中的优秀部分,与此同时,对当时的章回体小说创作却给予了严厉批评.抗战以后,文学界统一战线的形成,又使人们开始重新审视现代章回体小说,并结合创作实际,指出了今后的发展方向.这也即是章回体小说实现现代化转型的际遇.

Chapter-Titled Novels' Modern Fate

Chapter-titled novels represent the artistic achievements of classical Chinese fictions. They were not abandoned in modern times, although their status in literary history was replaced by modern novels. So, it is worthwhile to clarify their modern fate. In the late Qing dynasty and the early period of the Republic of China, people showed their interest in and understanding of such chapter-titled style as well as its artistic features and gave an assessment of the value of such novels. Writers in the 1920s and 1930s changed their attitude towards the classical chapter-titled fictions and acknowledged their merits. At the same time, they also gave such chapter-titled novels some severe criticism. Since the Anti-Japanese War, the establishment of the united front of literary circles led people to re-examine modern chapter-titled novels as well as their creation and pointed out their future development. This was the opportunity for the modern transformation of chapter-titled novels.
