论基督教与英国奴隶制的废除

奴隶制的废除是一个漫长的历史过程。在英国，基督徒主要是通过宣讲布道、发表演说、出版宣传品、组织废奴团体来营造一种反奴隶制的文化氛围，然后问接对政治施加影响。这种通过政治文化间接影响国家政策、法律的方式甚至比直接的政治斗争更加有效。尽管不乏有基督徒在理解《圣经》时认为上帝支持奴隶制，也有奴隶主从《圣经》中寻找依据证明奴隶制的合理性，但是历史事实表明：基督教对于反奴隶制的胜利功不可没。
