On Physiognomy of the Characters in Dream of Red Mansions

In CAO Xueqin's masterpiece Dream of Red Mansions,he uses various forms to foretell the destinies of the characters in the novel.According to author's study on appearance depictions in the novel,the outward appearance also predicts the destinies and ends of characters by the physiognomy.Though the physiognomy is not scientific predicting system,in time of CAO Xueqin,the physiognomy is very prevalent and he influenced by the social style.Thus it is possible for CAO to use the physiognomy to foretell the characters' fortunes.If the conclusion is right,there will be an important complement for the novel's foretelling ways.
