| Abstract: | To further classify the 540 radicals coming up first in Shuowen Jiezi can make it easy to grasp the word meaning or phrase meaning, and to have a thorough knowledge of the Chinese character system. Some work has already been done on the classification, such as the assortments in Explanation to Six Categories of Chinese Characters by Dai Tong between the late Song and the early Yuan, Shuoya by Zhu Jun-sheng in the Qing Dynasty, and The Origin of Chinese Characters by Zou Xiao-li of the modern age. Each of the three books has its own characteristics,with something in common and something significant,something acknowledged and something to be improved.The 540 radicals can be reclassified by considering the original meanings which are shown in Jiaguwen and Jingwen,and the common meanings of the words which hold the radicals. |
