摘    要:华文教育在美国已有一百多年的发展历史,从萌芽、发展到振兴,走过了早期私塾教育、新式华侨教育和当代华文教育三个阶段。到了20世纪90年代,华文教育出现了一片欣欣向荣的景象,中文学校的数量和学生人数都有很大的增长,并逐渐地溶入到美国的主流教育体系中,成为最大的几种外语之一。进入21世纪,华文教育将保持这一强劲的发展势头,在融入美国主流教育体系的同时而趋于当地化。

Abstract:The Chinese language education has history of more than one hundred years in America. Its development can be divided into three periods: early old - style private school education, new - style overseas Chinese language education and contemporary Chinese language education from its sprouting, developing to thriving.In 1990's, Chinese language education is flourishing. The number of Chinese school and student is creasing sharply and it is gradually blending with the education system of America. Therefore, it becomes one of the biggest foreign languages in America. In the coming 21st century, Chinese language education will continue thriving and gradually become part of local education system in America.
