A comparative study of Chinese and English surnames

Surnames are generally considered to be a differentiating symbol to reveal the ties of blood in social constructions. Chinese and English surnames are separately of two different cultures. The differences between them are for sure to be seen quite clearly at the first sight. However, similarities do exist. This article probes into the similarities of Chinese and English surnames .It takes a philosophical point of view in the analysis of the origins of surnames and the causes resulting in the similarities in oriental and occidental surnames. In the end, the following conclusion is drawn: the similarities of Chinese and English surnames result from the similar process in the course of the development of human beings.
