光武君臣以史为鉴论

史学最普遍而有效的社会功能应是以史为鉴,东汉光武君臣就是比较成功的典型,为《后汉书》所称道。东汉较西汉统治稳定得快,兴盛要早,其因就是光武君臣能以史为鉴。首先,妥善处理功臣;其次,防范外戚;第三,限制诸王;第四,避免周边用兵。尤以妥善处理功臣最为突出,与西汉初杀戮功臣对比鲜明。这与光武君臣文化素质较高有关。然光武帝强化君权又为以后外戚、宦官专权埋下祸根;优待功臣又使豪族地主势力膨涨,激化了社会矛盾。东汉最终没有逃脱封建王朝必然崩溃的厄远。
