A Hopeless Regression--On Zhuang-zi''''s moral ideal

The regression to the nature advocated by Zhuang-zi does not mean the return to the natural world in scientific sense or the return to the primitive society in historical sense, but means the entry into the ideal moral realm in ethical sense. The way of regression is double clearing-up: clearing up the worldly value system and then clearing up body itself, merging man and nature into one. The human society returning to the primitive and natural state is impossible, but the appeal to return to the nature is reasonable. It embodies people's criticism to the realistic society and their sense of transcendence. This is the very essence of the humanistic spirit.
