| 摘 要： | "寻找自我的民族家园"是犹太民族恒定的文化母题之一,伯纳德·马拉默德的小说《伙计》对这一犹太文化母题进行了移位运用和艺术阐释。从犹太文化角度上说,承载马拉默德犹太观的小店是主人公的精神家园:莫里斯的精神隔都(Ghetto)①和弗兰克的迦南圣地。同时,弗兰克的追寻之旅体现了马拉默德在犹太文化影响下的现实主义创作策略。他对全人类追寻精神家园这一主题颇富见地的哲学思考则表明其文学创作主旨衔接了美国犹太文学中的犹太性与普世性。

| Abstract: | The quest for homeland is an eternal cultural motif for the Jews. Bernard Malamud artistically interprets this Jewish motif in his novel The Assistant. In the Jewish sense, the store which embodies Malamud＇s Jewishness represents the spiritual homeland, metaphorically serving as Ghetto for Morris, and Canaan, the Promised Land, for Frank. Meanwhile Frank＇s quest for homeland reveals Malamud＇s writing is a form of realism with deep influence of Jewish culture. His insightful and philosophical consideration about the quest for spiritual homeland is obviously not confined to the Jews, but universal to all human beings. |
