Interpretation of Cultural Conflicts in The Joy Luck Club from the Perspective of Ethics

From the perspective of ethics, this paper analyzes the conflicts and compromises between four mothers and their respective daughters in Amy Tan＇s novel The Joy Luck Club. The cultural conflicts between Confucianism and American spirit represented by the two generations of mother and daughter are revealed, which are the conflict between the pecking order of family members in Chinese family and the equality idea in American family, the conflict between Chinese modesty and American frankness, the conflict between family awareness in Confucianism and individualism in American spirit and the conflict between the Chinese-American daughter and the native American.
