摘    要:无论是对外汉语教学还是汉外翻译,都要以忠实地向外国学习者和读者传播中华文化为己任.本文通过分析中国古典名著<红楼梦>若干片段中的称谓运用及其五个英译本的翻译,说明译者在处理汉语相关称谓现象方面的得失.

Abstract:Bothteachersof Chineseas aforeign language and translatorsof Chinese into foreignlanguagesengage themselves in introducing the Chinese culture to learners of Chinese as a foreign language in the former case,and foreign readers of Chinese literary works in the latter.This paper sets out to compare and contrast the five English versions of the Chineseclassic Hong Lou Meng or A Dream of the Red Mansion,with an aim to see to what extent the translators succeeded in transferring the cultural contents of the terms of address in question.
