On Spatial Reconstruction of Saving Fish from Drowning

Saving Fish from Drowning of Amy Tan is downplayed for its being alternative. It is tenta- tive to employ Gabriel Zoran＇s spatial narrative theory to cultivate the work from the perspectives of topographical space, chronotopic space and textual space, the cycling spatial structure and the inserted significant physical spots maintain the spatial image and highlight the thematic concern; the temporal and spatial perception is projected by the spectral narration with the entanglement of reality and illu- sion; the juxtaposition, retrospection and fragmented monologue break the linear narrating conven- tions and extend the readers＇ perceptions to reconstruct the textual space. It is concluded that the spa- tial narration is an essential strategy undertaken by Amy Tan to realize her surpassing of tradition and literature ideal.
