Nature and Name of Praetor: A Study of Roman Public Law by Justifying the Name

There are eight translations of praetor in Chinese. According to the real right of Praetor from Ancient Roman Republic to the empire period, originally, it is a post with administratin, jurisdiction and military functions. Until the empire period, it becomes a professional judicial official. Therefore, an exact understanding of the word of praetor should be done according to different period and function and we can translate it to judge, but better as vice-executive.
