Buddhist?Grottos of Kizil is now the earliest grotto temples in our country.It is a very important Buddhist relic for it provides us with valuable information on the research of Buddhism,Buddhist history and its related political,economical and cultural issues of central Asia and its neighboring areas.The essay studies the murals of Sakyamuni's stories in Kizil,and concludes that the murals of such stories in the ancient Qiuzi centered around Kizil are different from those in the central part of China in the East and other areas in the West.The differences can be explained as the disparity of terrain,the historical and ethnic background,and the different Buddhist sects and various ways of Buddhist dissemination.
