从纽马克翻译理论的发展谈直译与意译

本文以纽马克翻译理论为依据，通过对其理论的发展的分析和阐述，认为翻译实践中直译与意译方法的运用是对立统一，缺一不可的。交际翻译以传译原文的信息为重点，意义优先于形式，此时用意译。而语义翻译既要试图涵盖所有的原文意义，又要尽力保留原文的形式，此时则要采用直译方法。直译是基础，意译是直译必不可少的辅助和补充。

Random thoughts on literal translation and free translation as seen from the development of Newmark's theory on translation

Based on an analysis into the developemt of Newmark's translation theory, this paper is of opiniib that the method of literal translation and the method of free translation are a unity of opposites either of which can be dispensed with, Communicative translation, where transmission of information contained in the original is stressed, places meaning before form and thus favors free translation. Semantic translation, which attempts to cover the whole of the meaning in the original and at the same time retains the form of the original as much as possible, favors literal translation. Literal translation is the base, whereas the translation is an aid and a supplement to literal translation.
