江南制造局翻译馆与西方物理学知识在华传播

近代西方物理学知识被成系统地、完整地介绍到中国，是从江南制造局翻译馆开始的，中国也从此开始了本土物理学近代化的进程。这些书籍无论从质量上还是数量上都达到了近代译书的顶峰。内容不再是科普型的知识，而是以数学演算推理为基础的学术专著。这些书籍涉及到西方物理学的各个分支，包括在西方新近发展起来的学说体系。

Translation Department of Kiangnan Arsenal and the Spread of Western Physics in Modern China

The systematical and complete translation of western physics to modern China was done by the Translation Department of Kiangnan Arsenal. It was the outset of the modernization process of Chinese indigenous physics, too. The quality and quantity of physics books translated and published by Translation Department of Kiangnan Arsenal reached the top of the translated books in modern China. The content of these books, which were academic monographs based on mathematic calculation and inference, was not limited to the popular scientific knowledge. The translated books covered each branch of western physics, including the up-to-date theories.
