| Abstract: | Metaphor, as one of the important rhetorical devices, is not only a comprehensive language phe-nomenon, but also amode of thinking. This paper briefly presents sometheories proposed by somepragmatists,such as Grice, and Searle, on the phenomenon and essence of metaphor. It also proposes that a completemetaphor theory should be a interdisciplinary study of linguistics, semantics, pragmatics, philosophy, cognitivepsychology and semiology |
