Double Narration in Frankenstein |
| |
Abstract: | Male hegemony compels early Western women to write in two layers of narration: the surface and the underlying. Taking Frankenstein as an example, this paper has analyzed the double meanings of early female writings. On the one hand, they are forced to maintain male hegemony on the surface of the narration. On the other hand, they carry out a latent criticism of male dominance in a deep layer of narration. Unfortunately, the deconstruction of the fictional hegemony results inevitably in the reconstruction of the male one. |
