摘    要:以胡适的白话文理论为个案来考察现代白话文理论与实践之间互补相生的关系。尽管胡适的语言观徘徊于语言工具论与现代语言论之间,其白话文理论水准并未达到现代语言论的高度,但语言工具论的种种局限性之所以对现代文学的发展并没有构成大的威胁,是因为创作实践走到理论前头。新文学所创造的白话新文体弥补了胡适理论的不足,这在相当程度上有助于理论话语的成熟与完善,从而将胡适的理论话语提升到一个新的境界中。

Abstract:The article aims to explore the complementary relations between theory and practice in modern vernacular literature by taking Hu Shi's theory in this regard as a case study.It holds that although Hu Shi's conception of language wavers between language instrument theory and modem language theory,his theory of vernacular literature does not reach such a height as modern language theory is.But the limitations of his language instrument theory cannot hamper the development of modern literature,for literary practice is preceded by literary theory.New writing styles created by vernacular literature can make up for the deficiency of Hu Shi's theory,which,to some extent,is helpful to the maturity and perfection of theoretical discourse,so as to raise Hu Shi's theoretical discourse to a new ambience.
