Pollsters, the Press, and Political Polling in Britain

Institution:Robert M. Worcester, an American, is Chairman and Managing Director of Market & Opinion Research International Limited (MORI), and has for over a decade served as public opinion polling adviser to the Labour party in Great Britain. Much of this article is based on a longer work which is to be published in a book, Political Opinion Polling: An International Review, in 1981 by Macmillan.
Abstract:This article reviews the history of political polls in Britainsince 1945, when the first such poll was conducted, and examinescurrent topical issues, including the relationship between themedia and the polls.
