试析"新学"的近代意蕴

近代“新学”概念是与“西学”密切联系的,传教士首先用它指称西方近代以来的自然科学,后来将它延伸到西学的各个领域。中国学者在与传教士和西方社会打交道的过程中逐渐认识西学并接受了“新学”概念。“新学”的近代意蕴是多重的,“近代新学”的确立即是以这些意蕴为依据。“新学即西学”确立了洋务派的新学形态,“即中即西”确立了维新派的新学形态。

A tentative interpretation of the meaning of Xin-Xue

The term of Xin-Xue(New Learning),which is tied up with Xi-Xue(Western Learning) in the modern times,was first used by missionaries to refer to the western natural science and later extended to all fields of Xi-Xue.In their communication with the missionaries and the western nations,Chinese scholars gradually understood Xi-Xue and accepted the concept.The meaning of Xin-Xue is multi-folded in the contemporary age,on which the implications of Xin-Xue are based.The interpretation of Xin-Xue as Xi-Xue established the configuration of the Westernization advocates' concept of Xin-Xue while the inclusion of both "Chinese Learning" and "Western Learning" represents the configuration of the reformers' concept of Xin-Xue.
