191 6年《新青年》发动批孔及文学革命以推进思想启蒙 ,确立了自身主导民初思想文化变革主潮的地位。但是 ,由于紧贴现实政治 ,使重新评价孔学这一在当时富有变革意义的学术思想文化命题未能得到更深入地展开 ,文学语体变革提出后也被纳入既有的思想启蒙框架中进行 ,并且衍生了《新青年》直接干预现实政治的主导倾向。《新青年》所以由提倡思想启蒙而转向介入现实政治有多方面的原因 ,根子则在陈独秀及其同仁身上根深蒂固的“共和制情结”。

Moving in 1916 its base to Beijing, the then political center of the country, the journal New Youth launched both the denouncement of Confucius and a literary revolution to promote ideological enlightenment, and therefore established its role as the leader of the mainstream of ideological and cultural reform at the early stage of the Republic of China (1912-1949) However, as a result of the over-close connection of academic research with the current politics of the time, the re-appraisal of the Confucian Doctrine, an academic and cultural proposition that had rich reformative significance at the time, failed to be done in an in-depth way, and the reform of literary language style proposed by the journal was also constrained and conducted in the existing framework of ideological enlightenment, ensuing from which was the dominant tendency of New Youth's direct intervention in realistic politics It is found in this paper that, despite the many reasons that led to New Youth's shift from advocating ideological enlightenment to intervening in realistic politics, the essential cause for the journal to launch the above-mentioned movement is based on the "republic complex" that was deeply rooted in the mind of Chen Duxiu and his fellow thinkers
