Valeri Pereleshin, a Russian Poet Nurtured on Chinese Soil

Valeri Pereleshin was a famous overseas Russian poet residing in Harbin, an outstanding representative of Far East overseas Russian literature. During the dozens of years of overseas residence, he wrote a great number of poems and published many collections of poems, enjoying high reputation in the world of poetry. His poems expressed the thought and emotions of a Russian poet in exile, reflecting his sorrow and agony. The basic theme that goes through his poetry is the contradiction between brightness and darkness, despair and belief, self-condemnation and praying to the God. Pereleshin inherited the fine traditions of Russian classic poetry with some influence of Acmeist School. Many of his poems written in China are achievements of merging Chinese and Russian literature.
