| Abstract: | The Monk is a representative work of Matthew Lewis, the 18th-century distinguished Gothic novelist of Britain, and a classic in the history of Western Gothic novel. It's a pity, nevertheless, that nobody has so far brought about its Chinese version and published anything on it. This present paper aims at introducing The Monk to public so that domestic readers may get some information about the novel and begin to make researches into the novel. |
