Adjustments in U.S.Foreign Policy During the Ford Administration

The international situation and domestic politics combined to push forward adjustments in foreign policies of the Ford Administration. The Administration changed the model of more security at the expense of economy, and came to focus on Western industrialized nations and developing countries by initiating the Summit of the Group of Seven, participating in North South Dialogue, to face the reality of increasing global dependence in the 1970s. In US Soviet relations, the Ford Administration continued with the policy of detente, while strengthening its attack on the Soviet Union in human rights and trade. Its policy of economic focus and human rights indicated that there were some post Cold War features in the Ford Administration's diplomacy.
