American Economy and Politics in the Late 19th Century

The second half of the 19th century is a key period in the development of American history.The North won the Civil War and abolished the slavery,which broke through the economic confinement of the plantation system.The formation of the capitalism encouraged a large population to go westward.Railroads were widely built and within only 20 years American had the longest railroads of the world.Thus America's economy grew rapidly.It was the period of the establishment of the two-party system and the key period of economic and territorial expansion of the country.
