论重庆都市地名的文化特色与城市形象

On the Characteristics of Place Names in Urban Chongqing and Its City Image

Place names in urban area and those in rural area hold strikingly different cultural tint due to their respective types of human settlements. The nomination rule of streets and settlements shows a high\|level similarity in most cities, especially in those situated in plains. However, as the minority among city groups, mountain cities share a unique characteristic in place names of human settlement. It is the cultural tint of the place name that creates the city image nationally and internationally. The comparative study on urban place\|names of Chongqing and of Chengdu illustrates that those in Chongqing hold characteristics with a striking diversity, a typical nature\|sense and a strongly rural style. These characters have shaped a Chongqing\|style toponymy culture and a city image to the outside. They have been showing and will continue to show influences on Chongqing's opening to the outside and heading for the future.
