厚翻译述评

分析了厚翻译的成因,作者认为：语言文化差异、文化取向不同和译者主体性有别是导致厚翻译的主要因素。翻译实践中的厚翻译现象有其合理性和必要性,但译文的信息量不应大于原文的信息量;过度过滤源语文化的异质成分是译者主体性的过度表现,是一种文化自恋倾向,往往会导致厚翻译的信息量超额,从而使译文的关联度大于原文的关联度,降低译文的可信度。

A Comment on Thick Translation

This paper makes an analysis of the causes leading to thick translation,which turns out to be the difference between the source language culture and the target language culture,the difference in cultural orientation and the difference in translator’s subjectivity.The author of this paper believes that thick translation,in some cases,is reasonable and necessary,but it is not supposed to be more informative than the source text.Thick translation over-loaded with redundant information usually results from translator’s filtering too much cultural specificity of the source language and his/her cultural narcissism,which will cause the relevance degree of the target text to be greater than that of the source text.
