After Meiji Restoration,Japan "escaped Asia to enter Europe",pursued the Western culture and left the Chinese tradition out in the cold.The Japanese poetry,in addition to the traditional songs and parallel sentences,also saw the rise of free verses.As a result,the Chinese poem gradually were marginalized.After Japan’s defeat and surrender in 1945 along with Japan’s national language reform,the writings in classical style were forgotten by the people and the Han poems abandoned.However,due to the inertia of the 1000-odd year cultural tradition,there were still many people following the Han poems,which even unprecedentedly flourished in the beginning of Meiji Restoration.Since the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-95,the Japanese often expressed in Han poems their ambition of invading China.Certainly,there were poems which implied their national conscience.
