In The Importance of Being Earnest,Wilde creates a world of dandies.The characters in the comedy lead a life of delicacy and hedonism,their words full of humor and wisdom.At the same time of realizing the aesthetic ideas in their life,these characters give their satire to the late nineteenth century English society.This comedy is indeed Wilde’s experience of seeking a sense of existence and reconstructing the "self" as a means of subverting the philistine and hypocritical Victorian time that left people faithless and rootless.Wilde also betrays in the comedy his wish to establish an ideal social order,which expresses Wilde’s pursuit of liberation to human nature and human being’s happiness in his humanistic spirit.
