On the Tie between the Five Element Theory and the Modern Designing Thought

This article discusses modern design thinking from Five Elements theory in ancient China.The benefit thinking in the origin of Five Elements theory gives prominence to the Telesis and advantage of design.The holistic thinking in the relationship of these five elements emphasizes the conditionality between the exterior factors and the interior factors of design,so as to point out that the creativity of design comes into being in these conditions.And the correlative thinking in Five Elements system brings forward two paths for design language,that is,metaphor and metonym.At last,it is indicated that these three thinking roots in observing and considering on ordinary life,which is the key to modern design thinking.
