“瘫痪”主题下《都柏林人》儿童篇中的叙事策略研究

Narrative Strategies in Stories about Childhood in Dubliners under the Theme of Paralysis

Dubliners is James Joyce＇ s famous collection of short stories. In Dubliners＇ first three stories about childhood, The Sisters, An Encounter and Araby, based on the viewpoint of children, Joyce well displays his narrative strategies, es- pecially the ones as narration of focus on the first person and double-space narration concerned with the alternation of sto- ry space and discourse space, which plays an important role in the development of the stories. Based on these strategies, together with the narrator＇ s epiphany, Joyce vividly displays the Dubliners＇ being lost in their religious belief, hopeless- ness of their education and inefficiency in their affection, which is just in strict accordance with the theme of paralysis for Dubliners as a whole.
