Academies and Culture along the Changjiang River Valley

The academy system is a most characteristic form of education in ancient China. The Changjiang River valley has always been the focus area where the academy system originated, developed, and widespread. On one hand, it was the culture core position moved south that offered good historic condition and cultural background, which then made the academies develop rapidly along the area. On the other hand, academies there had played an important role in the further development of the "Changjiang Culture" since the periods of Tang and Song.
