A Pragmatic-Cognitive Analysis of Irony in Pride and Prejudice

This paper tries to detect the dynamic process of achievement of ironic effect by virtue of conceptual integration network and a series of analytic figures.With explicit elaboration,it is helpful to readers to understand that with the conceptual integration theory,the internal mechanisms of irony generation and comprehension could be perfectly disclosed,convincingly proving that the conceptual integration theory has powerful elucidatory force on verbal irony.A conclusion could be drawn as follows: Pragmatic-cognitive analysis will be more powerful in analyzing and interpreting the dynamic process of how the ironic effect is achieved in literary works.
