On Interpretation of Idioms in Intercultural Communication

With the interpretation of idioms as an example,this paper presents the basic principles and methods of interpretation,such as borrowing synonyms,interpreting literally,interpreting freely,and combining literal interpretation with explanation.The paper finally concludes that in intercultural communication,the interpreter should flexibly cope with cultural obstacles while overcoming linguistic differences,which requires the interpreter not only to grasp solid basic knowledge of the language but also to master the background knowledge of the two cultures and to skillfully exercise various techniques for interpretation.
