The Artistic Form of Bimo Paintings of the Yi Nationality

Bimo is the priest of the Yi nationality. Bimo paintings are primitive religious paintings that are used in explaining religious ideas, in sacrificial rites, divination and evil-driving ceremonies. These paintings reveal the life and ideas of the ancient Yis and embody rich historical and cultural implications like the traditional and religious ideas of the Yi people that exert a far-reaching influence on their life. These paintings can be divided into four major groups, the guardians, the sacrificial ritual, the evil-driving and the divination which have their own features in terms of form, structure and color.
