Comparison of opening thought between Chinese and Japanese intellectuals in contemporary times --Focus on Tan Citong and Yoshida-shoin

Under the great pressure of the western countries in 19th century, both China and Japan were forced to implement the opening policy. The intellectuals at that time in China and Japan shared the recognition of learning from the western countries. While Yoshida\|shoin emphasized the introduction of military practice with the thought of "accept or reject" and "accumulate", Tan Citong favored the development of the capitalistic economy with the thought of "take over" and "throw away". The investigation of the characteristics of the opening thought of the intellectuals both in China and Japan offers the enlightenment for the modernization processes of the two countries.
