The Personality of a Fiery Woman Who Betrays the Way of Women

As the quite essential fiery woman in the narrative literature of the Ming-Qing Period, the character of Xue Sujie highlights the conflict between women with unconventional characters and the orthodox view on the way of women. Xue Sujie's betrayal of the way of women after her maiden heart is changed is significant on multiple levels as deconstruction of the way of women. The failure of the education aimed at making Xue Sujie a lady brings light to the internal contradictions of the way of women and the crisis it encounters in reality. The destruction of Xue Sujie's moral character shows the intention of the author of Xingshi Yinyuan Zhuan to use the way of women to educate people, which is in accordance with the pedagogic theme of the entire novel in the sense that the sacred nature and inviolability of the way of women is emphasized.
