| Abstract: | With regards to the everlasting charm of the English proverbs, there are various reasons, the most important of which is the extensive use of English rhetorical devices. The rhetorical background of the English proverbs concerns their sources and the tradition of western rhetorics. The rhetorical function lies in that English proverbs have so far successfully made their presence felt through the use of such rhetorical devices as antithesis, repetition, rhyme and analogy. |
