民国初期,当人们分析民主政治遭受挫折的原因时,道德问题受到广泛关注。 由于法国启蒙思想家孟德斯鸠曾经对国民道德与民主政治之间的关系进行过比较深刻的论述,因而伴随着道德问题讨论的日益深入,孟德斯鸠的道德论引起了越来越多人的注意。其中主张保守中国传统文化的人和新文化知识分子关于孟德斯鸠道德论的不同解释,从一个侧面反映了民国初期新旧思想冲突的激烈。

Montesquieu's Viewpoints on Morals and the Dispute over Moral Construction in the Early Years of the Republic of China

In the early years of the Republic of China, moral issues were widely-concerned when people analysed the reasons for the setbacks of democratic politics. Montesquieu, a thinker in French Enlightenment, once expounded deeply the re ations between national ethics and democratic politics, and his theory of ethics attracted more and more people with a daily deepening in the discussion of moral issues. The different explanatons to Montesquieu's theory of ethics by moral reconstructists and intellectuals of new culture reflected in one aspect a fierce collision between the new and the old ideas in the early years of the Republic of China.
