On the Sources of the Terminology Occurred in An Audio-visual Aid to Western Scholars

This paper,by assuming a historical perspective,is an attempt to trace the possible origin of the technical terms used in "An Audio-visual Aid to Western Scholars".Special attention is given to their close connection to those terms employed in traditional Chinese phonology.The theoretical aspect of this phonological monograph is also touched.The conclusion sees considerable Chinese factors embodied within the terminology of "An Audio-visual Aid to Western Scholars",which should be the very product of the initial intercourse between western and Chinese linguistic culture during the final period of Ming Dynasty.
