论中国近代以来功利主义的致思

近代以来 ,西方功利主义成为中国社会颇具影响的思潮之一。康有为、严复、粱启超等人对功利主义思想的推崇 ,反映了民族资本发展的迫切愿望。章太炎对功利主义学说的全面批判 ,使功利主义在中国不再受到人们的公开礼赞 ,但它并没有从此销声匿迹 ,而是继续存活在人们的实际生活中。功利主义在中国有着深厚的文化土壤 ,完全排斥功利主义必然使历史进步的合力减弱 ,所以不能用抽象空泛的“左”的观念一概反对之 ,当然 ,也不能消极放任之 ,而应对功利主义加以法制的规范和道德文明的引导

On the Tendency of Utilitarianism since the Modern Times in China

Since the modern times, the Western utilitarianism has become one of the most influential trends of thought in China. Such scholars as Kang You-wei, Yan Fu and Liang Qi-chao canonized the utilitarian thought so much so that it reflected the urgent need for developing national capitals. Zhang Tai-yan's all-sided criticism of utilitarian theory stopped it from being praised openly in China, but it did not thus disappeared. It continues to exist in the real life because there is a fertile cultural soil for utilitarianism in China. The complete repulsion of utilitarianism will certainly weaken the resultant force for the historical progress. Therefore, we can not object it with abstract and general "leftist" view; and of course, we can not surrender ourselves to it passively, either. What ought to be done is to put utilitarianism under the regulations of laws and under the guidance of moral civilization.
