| Abstract: | In second language acquisition, there is language transfer or cross-linguistic influence, which is undergoing a comprehensive and enlightening treatment. This paper gives a detailed classification and analysis of language transfer occurring in phonetic, semantic, lexical, syntactic and discourse dimensions, describes the conditions, extent and characteristics of transfer, introduces the progress and some fundamental problems in this area and points out the implications of transfer for teaching. |
