The assembled machine tool event in China's modern history of science and technology

In the beginning of 1960s, an article about the assembled machine tool written by some teachers of Harbin Institute of Technology caught the attention of Chairman Mao. He wrote a letter in the name of the editing board of the magazine "Red Flag" to ask for the article. These teachers extended the original article and got it published in "Red Flag". This brought forth a debate and a great effect in the mechanical engineering field all over China. The significance of the article lies in that it indicated the attitudes towards natural science by the leaders of the nation, which affected the making of some national policies and some other relevant events of the time.
