既用且防:史弥远与衡山赵氏家族关系考论

衡山赵氏家族的崛起,很大程度上缘于同权相史弥远的密切关系。官方史书中出于为贤者讳的目的,刻意淡化了史弥远在赵氏家族兴起中的作用。赵方执掌荆湖长达七年,成为史弥远掌控地方的重要工具。不过,赵方在京湖的长期经营也引起了史弥远的警惕。赵方死后,史弥远不失时机地将其子赵范、赵葵以及其他许多部属调离京湖,消除了赵氏家族在荆湖的根基。史弥远对赵氏一族的驾驭体现出既用且防的鲜明特点。此外,从对赵方的任用中可以看到,史弥远在用人上既有任人唯亲的一面,亦有选贤任能的一面,这当构成了其得以长期专权的重要原因。
