袁世凯与山东义和团

袁世凯履任山东巡抚之后,基于对强敌构衅侵权、时艰方殷的认识,怀着遵守约章、避免列强借口出兵入境以保全自有之权的想法,震慑弹压义和团,劝谕教民反教,押护洋人出境,使山东义和团的活动渐趋平静。作为肩负守土之责的封疆大吏,在当时的国际国内形势下,袁世凯对形势的认识和应对举措,稳妥适当,尽职尽责,应该说是晚清中国社会救国保国的正确选择。

Yuan Shi-kai and the Shandong Boxers

When he was appointed as Governor of Shandong,Yuan Shi-kai suppressed the Boxers,urged Christians to leave the Church,relieved the distress people,escorted foreigners exit,on account of his understanding of the difficult situation in China,his aim to abide by the treaties to avoid being aggressed and to protect the interests of Shandong..What he did has made the Boxers＇ movement gradually calm down.Under the then situation at home and abroad,what Yuan Shi-kai,as a governor with the responsibility to safeguard the province,has done is proper,responsible,and is the right choice in the society of late Qing Dynasty.
