谈谈科技英语翻译中的"貌"与"神"

文章着重讨论科技英语翻译中"貌"与"神"的关系.由于汉英两种语言属于不同的语系,它们反映了两种截然不同的思维特征,所以它们的语法(句法)结构也有着巨大的差异.因此,在翻译(尤其是科技翻译)过程中,译者应当努力用合乎逻辑的汉语来消除这种语言上的巨大差异.当翻译过程中出现两种语言的"貌"离现象时,我们应当采取"貌离神合"的翻译方法,而不要过多地拘泥于原文的语法(句法)关系,生硬地翻译有碍于原文意思的表达.

Variance in Appearance and Harmony in Essence: A Talk on Scientific English Translation

Chinese people used to say two persons are seemingly in harmony but actually they are at variance. In translation, especially in translation of scientific materials, this is not always the case. On the contrary, we often see the translated materials are not in conformity with the original language, but actually they are in harmony with each other in essence. This phenomenon is called "the two languages are seemingly at variance, yet in essence they are in harmony with each other ". This paper chiefly focuses on this phenomenon.
